Owing to the cancellation of the 2020 Minor League Baseball season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Trejo did not participate in any games in 2020.

He was included in the 60-player roster for the 2020 Rockies. He received a Spring Training invitation for the 2021 campaign, but he was sent to Triple-A to start the season after failing to make the club.

Trejo was initially promoted to the major leagues on April 10, 2021 after being added to the 40-man roster.

He entered the game as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning and had one at-bat before floating out to Mauricio Dubón, making his MLB debut that day.
