Kirk was signed as an amateur free agent by the Blue Jays on September 24, 2016.

He began his professional career in 2017 with the GCL Blue Jays, appearing in only one game, before moving on to the Bluefield Blue Jays for the 2018 season, where he blasted a game-winning home run.

In 58 games, he went 354/.443/.558.

That season, he was an Appalachian League postseason All-Star, and in 2019, he was an organization All-Star for his Class A campaign.

In 2020, he went to spring training with the Blue Jays, then spent the opening few weeks of the season at their backup training facility after the minor leagues were canceled.

In early September, after backup catcher Reese McGuire failed to bat and was replaced on the major league roster by Caleb Joseph, he was elevated to the taxi squad, then replaced Joseph on the major league team a week later.

He made his debut start against the New York Mets, catching veteran Robbie Ray and leading the Jays to a 3-2 victory.

In the game, he went 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. In an 11-5 win over the New York Yankees on September 21st, he went 4-for-4 and hit his first major league home run off Chad Green;

another of his hits was off the fence in right field and would have been a home run in New Yankee Stadium if the game had been played at the Jays’ temporary home of Sahlen Field in Buffalo, NY.
