Kirk started off as a fan of Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals from the time he was three years old and began playing baseball at that age.

His father coached the Little League team that he was a part of.  He has two brothers: Juan Manuel Jr., who is his older brother, and Andres, who is his younger brother.



On September 24, 2016, the Toronto Blue Jays announced that they had signed Kirk. In 2017, he made his first appearance in a professional game with the Rookie-level Blue Jays of the Gulf Coast League.

Kirk played in a total of 92 games throughout his career, and had a batting average of.290 with seven home runs, 44 RBIs, 56 walks, and 39 strikeouts.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused a delay in the start of the 2020 minor league season for him, when it was thought that he would begin the season with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. However, the season was eventually cancelled.

Kirk got called up to play for the Blue Jays on September 11, 2020, and the next night he collected his first hit in Major League Baseball.
