In Phoenix, Arizona, López attended Greenway High School. The Cincinnati Reds selected him in the 27th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft.

That year, López made his professional debut with the Arizona League Reds, slashing .419/.526/.484. López had a .273/.342/.327 slash line with one home run and 29 RBI for the rookie-level Billings Mustangs in 2016.



For the 2017 season, he returned to Billing and hit.300/.388/.455 with four home runs and 33 RBI. López spent the 2018 season with the Single-A Dayton Dragons, hitting.321/.375/.406 in 65 games.

He batted .287/.353/.347 with two home runs and fifty RBI for the High-A Daytona Tortugas in 2019.

Because the minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 epidemic, López did not play in any games in 2020.  After hitting.362 in Chattanooga, López was promoted to the Triple-A Louisville Bats.

After hitting .358/.436/.526 with two home runs and 14 RBI in Louisville, López was selected to the 40-man roster and promoted to the major leagues for the first time on June 28, 2021.

That day, López made his Major League debut against the Philadelphia Phillies as a pinch hitter. López was facing relief pitcher Bailey Falter, and he singled on the first pitch he saw.
