The Carolina Panthers of the National Football League’s Carolina Division are noted for having defensive end Amaré Barno on their roster. He is 111 kilograms and 1.98 meters tall. At Westwood High School, he participated in football as a safety. After being unable to play Division I football due to his academic standing, he enrolled at Butler Community College and played college football for the Butler Grizzlies.

During his tenure with the Butler Grizzlies, his position was altered from safety to linebacker. In his second season, he made 66 stops, 14 stops for a loss, and 4.5 sacks. 2018 saw him transfer committed to Virginia Tech. At Virginia Tech, where he played for the Hokies, he continued to play football.

Barno, an outside linebacker, participated in three games in his first year at Virginia Tech in 2019 before redshirting the rest of the year. He once more switched positions and played defensive end entering his redshirt junior season. He had 6.5 sacks for the season’s most on his squad and led the Atlantic Coast Conference with 16 tackles for loss. In 2021, he recorded 3.5 sacks in addition to 5.5 tackles for loss.

He declared after the season that he will join the 2022 NFL Draft and ran the fastest 40-yard time of any linebacker that year at the NFL combine with a time of 4.37. The Carolina Panthers selected Barno with the 189th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
