Andrew Gregory Chafin is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers in the United States. He has played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, and Oakland Athletics in Major League Baseball.

Chafin is a Wakeman, Ohio native. He went to Western Reserve High School in Collins, Ohio, and was a member of the baseball team there. In his final high school game, he pitched a no-hitter.



Chafin enrolled at Kent State University and was a member of the Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team.

He was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year in 2009 after pitching 35+23 innings with a 1.26 earned run average (ERA), eight saves, and 55 strikeouts.

He had Tommy John surgery in 2010 and missed the entire season. In 2011, he returned as a starter and went 89 innings with a 2.02 ERA and 105 strikeouts.

He played collegiate summer baseball with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League after the 2011 season.

Chafin was taken 43rd overall in the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He made his professional debut with the Arizona League Diamondbacks, pitching one inning and striking out two batters.

In 2012, he pitched for the Visalia Rawhide and had a 4.93 ERA with 150 strikeouts in 122 innings.

He began the 2013 season with Visalia and was later promoted to the Mobile BayBears. Over 157 innings, he had a 3.20 ERA and 119 strikeouts.

Chafin debuted in the Major Leagues on August 13, 2014, against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field, pitching five innings while allowing three hits, two walks, and three strikeouts while getting a no-decision.

On September 17, 2014, he hit a single and drove in a run in his second start and first Major League at-bat for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
