Andrew Van Ginkel is an American football linebacker for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL).
He played college football at South Dakota before transferring to Wisconsin and was drafted by the Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Van Ginkel had his high school education at Rock Valley Community High School in Rock Valley, Iowa. While there, he was a quarterback for the Nighthawks football team, which was a consolidated team that also included students from Boyden–Hull High School.
Following the completion of his senior season of high school football, he did not take part in any recruiting camps, and as a result, he did not garner the interest of very many prominent institutions.
At the beginning of his undergraduate career, Van Ginkel was a defensive end for the University of South Dakota Jackrabbits.
He participated in one season of play before departing for Iowa Western Community College after his freshman year due to head coach Joe Glenn’s retirement. He had previously played for the institution.
Van Ginkel continued to play defensive end for Iowa Western while he was there. He participated in a linebacker competition at the University of Wisconsin for two years after transferring there.
