Andrew Hunter Wantz is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Los Angeles Angels.  After signing his professional contract with the Los Angeles, he made his professional debut in 2021

Wantz, a native of Holly Springs attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Wantz was a Cape Cod Baseball League all-star while playing collegiate summer baseball with the Bourne Braves in 2016.

Wantz was drafted in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB draft by the Los Angeles Angels.

Wantz was called up by the Angels from Triple-A Salt Lake on April 19, 2022, and he was added to the active roster.

On June 27, 2022, Wantz made his first major league starting debut as the opener but was ejected for the first time in his career after one pitch in the second inning (and twelve pitches total), which hit Mariner Jesse Winker, setting off a brawl that saw eight players, both team managers, and Wantz and Winker all ejected.

In the first inning, Wantz delivered a pitch behind the head of Julio Rodriguez, the game’s second batter.

Wantz was also given a three-game suspension from Major League Baseball, while his manager Phil Nevin was given a ten-game punishment for directing a beanball despite warnings from both clubs not to.
