On November 1, 2014, he defected from Cuba to pursue a career in Major League Baseball. On July 7, 2015, he signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers.



In 130 games with the Hickory Crawdads and Frisco RoughRiders in 2016, Ibáez batted.285 with 13 home runs, 66 RBIs, 15 stolen bases, and a .804 OPS.

In 2017, he returned to Frisco and spent the entire season there, slashing.265/.323/400 in 82 games with eight home runs and 29 RBIs.

Due to a finger injury, he was forced to miss six weeks of the season. Ibáez spent last season with the Triple-A Round Rock Express of the Pacific Coast League.

In 125 games, he had a batting line of .283/.344/.410/.754 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI. Ibáez spent the 2018 offseason with the Dominican Winter League’s Aguilas Cibaenas.

Ibáez has been invited to the 2019 major league spring training as a non-roster player. Ibáez suffered a strained right oblique during spring training in 2019 and was sent to the Nashville Sounds on April 6.

He hit .300/.371/.497/.868 with 20 home runs and 65 RBI in the 2019 season with Nashville. Ibáez did not participate in 2020 because the Minor League Baseball season was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
