Texans Rangers infielder Andy Ibáez Velázquez is a Cuban professional baseball player who was born and raised in Havana, Cuba (MLB). It wasn’t until 2021 that he made his major league debut.



At the 2013 World Baseball Classic, Ibáez was a member of the Cuban national baseball team.  In the Cuban National Series, he represented Isla de la Juventud.



On November 1, 2014, he defected from Cuba to pursue a career in Major League Baseball. On July 7, 2015, he signed a minor-league deal with the Texas Rangers.

In 130 games with the Hickory Crawdads and Frisco RoughRiders in 2016, Ibáez batted.285 with 13 home runs, 66 RBIs, 15 stolen bases, and an.804 OPS.

He hit.265/.323/400 with eight home runs and 29 RBIs in 82 games in 2017. He missed six weeks due to a finger injury. In 2018, Ibáez was a member of the Triple-A Round Rock Express.

In 125 games, he hit.283/.344/.410/.754 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI. In 2018, Ibáez was a member of the Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican Winter League.

Ibáez was a non-roster invitee to spring training in 2019. During spring training, Ibáez injured his right oblique and was assigned to Nashville on April 6.

In 2019, he hit.300/.371/.497/.868 with Nashville, with 20 home runs and 65 RBI.  Because of the suspension, Ibáez did not play in 2020.
