The Brewers traded Banda and Mitch Haniger to the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 31, 2014, in exchange for Gerardo Parra.

He was assigned to the South Bend Silver Hawks by Arizona, where he spent the rest of the season. He went 9–6 with a 3.03 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 26 total games (20 starts) between Wisconsin and South Bend.

He pitched in 28 games (27 starts) for the Visalia Rawhide in 2015, going 8–8 with a 3.32 ERA and one shutout.



Banda led the league with 152 strikeouts and three balks, as well as being second in starts, third in innings pitched (151.2), eighth in wild pitches (12), and tenth in victories.

He was a post-season All Star and a MILB.COM Organization All Star.

In June, Banda was promoted to the Reno Aces after starting the season with the Mobile BayBears.

That July, he took part in the All-Star Futures Game. He went 10–6 with a 2.88 ERA in 26 appearances between Mobile and Reno, striking out 152 batters in 150 innings.

He was named to the Mid-Season All-Star team, the MILB.COM Organization All-Star team, and the Futures Game. After the 2016 season, the Diamondbacks added him to their 40-man roster.

Banda began the 2017 season pitching for the Reno Aces.

On July 22, 2017, Banda made his major league debut, taking a defeat against the Washington Nationals.

Banda was excellent for the first two times through the Nationals’ batting order, allowing only one run on a gigantic solo home run by Bryce Harper that reached the Chase Field concourse, but he gave up three more runs in the sixth inning and was yanked.

The next day, he was optioned back to Reno. He was recalled twice more during the season, finishing with a 2–3 record and a 5.96 ERA in 24+23 innings.
