Anthony Wayne Bender plays for the Miami Marlins in Major League Baseball. In the 20th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft, the Kansas City Royals selected him.

The Kansas City Royals selected Santa Rosa Junior College’s Bender with the 613th overall choice in the 20th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. For the Rookie League Arizona League Royals, Bender made his professional debut.

With a combined 5-6 record and 3.96 ERA with two Class A-Advanced teams in 2017 (Class A Lexington Legends and Class A-Advanced Wilmington Blue Rocks), he split the season.

He completed the full 2018 season at Wilmington, making 30 appearances, compiling a 3.57 ERA and going 6-3. Bender was released by the Royals on March 21, 2019.

Bender signed a contract with the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball’s Sioux City Explorers on April 12, 2019.

On May 29, the Milwaukee Brewers signed him to a minor league contract after he pitched 3.2 scoreless innings for Sioux City.

Bender appeared in 29 games while pitching for the Single-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, High-A Carolina Mudcats, and Double-A Biloxi Shuckers, compiling a 1.49 ERA.

Bender signed on with the Milwaukee Milkmen of the American Association for the 2020 campaign when the minor league season was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

In 2020, Bender pitched for the Milkmen, posting a 5.48 earned run average (ERA) and striking out 25, and helping the team win the American Association title.  Bender chose free agency on November 2, 2020.
