At Manalapan High School, Firkser participated in a variety of sporting events including basketball and football. Firkser was a point guard in basketball and averaged 21.3 points scored while also dishing out 7.6 assists each game.
With 1,362 points at the end of his high school career, he finished second all-time in the records of the institution. Firkser was selected as the co-player of the year for the Shore Conference by the coaches of the Shore basketball team during his senior season.

It wasn’t until Firkser’s second year of high school that he first laced up his football cleats. Firkser led the Manalapan football team to a record of 30–6 throughout the course of his three years as a high school football player, and they won three straight ‘A’ North Division championships.
