Anthony Firkser, a tight end who began the season on the practice squad for the Atlanta Falcons and was raised to the 53-man roster for the start of Week 1 play, has been signed to the active roster by the team.
After a great performance in training camp and the preseason, it was anticipated that Firkser would serve as the Falcons’ secondary receiving tight end.
It came as a surprise when he was released and placed on the practice squad in favor of Feleipe Franks, a young tight end and quarterback who is still in progress.
His time with the team was brief, as Firkser has just been added to Atlanta’s active roster in a formal capacity.
On Sunday, Firkser only participated in three total snaps, thus his contribution was not particularly noteworthy.
Despite this, he was targeted twice out of those three snaps and ended up collecting one ball for a gain of 6 yards.
It would appear like Firkser will now be a more permanent part of the offense, returning to the active roster officially for Week 2.
