Garcia was taken 52nd overall in the second round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft by the San Francisco Giants.

Garcia inked a contract with the Giants that included a $1.1 million signing bonus. In his debut professional season, he split time between the Arizona League Giants and the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, batting .225 with two home runs and 15 RBIs.

He began the 2015 season with the Class A South Atlantic League’s Augusta GreenJackets, where he was selected as a midseason All-Star.

He was promoted to the San Jose Giants of the Class A-Advanced California League midseason and ended the season there, batting .264/.342/.431 with 15 home runs and 66 RBIs in 103 games between the two organizations.

Garcia was invited to spring training as a non-roster player in 2016. He missed two months of the 2016 season after suffering several face fractures during a game on May 22.

When he returned, he batted .257/323/340 in 41 games for San Jose, with two home runs and 20 RBIs.

In 2017, he split his time between San Jose and the Richmond Flying Squirrels of the Class AA Eastern League, batting .274 with 17 home runs and 73 RBIs, and a .808 OPS in 103 games.

After the 2017 season, the Giants added him to their 40-man roster.

Garcia was promoted to the Sacramento River Cats of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League after playing 80 games for Richmond in 2018.

The Giants promoted Garcia to the major leagues on August 26 when Buster Posey underwent season-ending surgery. On August 31, he made his major league debut and hit a home run.
