Standing at a height of 1.85 meters, Bailey Michael Zappe, a quarterback for the New England Patriots of the National Football League, was born on April 26, 1999.
Prior to setting FBS season records for throwing yards and passing touchdowns while a graduate student at Western Kentucky, he played his first four seasons of collegiate football at Houston Baptist. The Patriots took Zappe in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
In his debut year at Houston Baptist, Zappe started nine games, threw for 1,548 yards with five touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and ran for two additional scores. He completed 357 of his 560 throws for 3,811 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions as a junior.
As a senior, he played in four games during a condensed season after the Southland Conference’s autumn football season was canceled due to the COVID-19 epidemic, passing for 1,833 yards and 15 touchdowns against one interception. Zappe accessed the transfer site after the season was over.
Zappe followed former HBU offensive coordinator Zach Kittley in committing to transfer to Western Kentucky. Jarreth Sterns, Zappe’s top wide receiver at HBU, also transferred to WKU.
Beginning with the 2021 season, he was designated the Hilltoppers’ starting quarterback. He threw for 424 yards and seven touchdowns in his first start for Western Kentucky’s 59-21 victory over Tennessee-Martin.
Zappe led the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in passing yards (5,545) and touchdowns (56), respectively, during the 2021 regular season.
He had approximately 1,100 more passing yards than the next-best FBS quarterback before the 2021 Boca Raton Bowl and was on the verge of breaking the FBS records for passing yards and touchdowns, which were held by B. J. Symons of Texas Tech in 2003 and Joe Burrow of LSU in 2019, respectively.
He broke both records in the 2021 Boca Raton Bowl matchup against the Appalachian State Mountaineers, capping the season with 5,967 throwing yards and 62 touchdowns.
With the 137th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots selected Zappe.
