Ben Rortvedt

American professional baseball catcher for the Major League Baseball’s New York Yankees, Benjamin Thomas Rortvedt was born on September 25, 1997.  He was a former MLB player for the Minnesota Twins. In 2021, he debuted in the MLB.

Rortvedt was chosen by the Minnesota Twins with the 56th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. In exchange for a $900,000 signing bonus, he left his commitment to Arkansas and signed with the Twins.

Prior to being promoted to the Elizabethton Twins, Rortvedt made his professional debut the same year with the Gulf Coast League Twins. He had 10 RBIs while batting.222 in 33 games for both teams.

In 2017, he played for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, where he hit.224 with four home runs and 30 RBIs in 89 games. In 2018, he played for both Cedar Rapids and the Fort Myers Miracle, where he combined to hit.262/.331/.379 with five home runs and 43 RBIs in 90 games with both teams.

He started the 2019 season in Fort Myers after returning there, then in May he was promoted to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, where he concluded the year. He had a.238/.334/.379 batting line with seven home runs and 29 RBIs in 79 games for both teams.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic-related cancellation of the minor league season in 2020, Rortvedt did not participate in a minor league game. He was added to the Twins’ 40-man roster following the 2020 campaign.

Rortvedt was initially elevated to the top leagues on April 30, 2021. That day, he faced the Kansas City Royals as the starting catcher in his Major League Baseball debut. He got his first major league hit during the contest when Wade Davis of the Royals got an RBI single off of him.

Over the course of 89 at-bats with the Twins, he batted.169/.229/.281, totaling three home runs and seven RBIs. When not playing for the Twins, he slashed for the St. Paul Saints. 34 games at a slash line of 254/.324/.426 with five home runs and 22 RBIs.

Rortvedt was exchanged for Gary Sánchez and Gio Urshela on March 13, 2022, along with Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa by the New York Yankees.
