Singer went to Tavares High School in Tavares, Florida, where he was a member of the 2012 Tavares High School baseball team that won its first district championship in 24 years.

Singer later transferred to nearby Eustis High School in Eustis, Florida, where he went 8–3 with a 1.25 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 67 innings as a senior.

Singer was picked in the second round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, but he declined to sign and instead attended the University of Florida, where he played collegiate baseball for the Gators.

Singer made 23 appearances and one start as a freshman at Florida in 2016. He went 2–2 with a 4.95 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 43+23 innings this season.

Singer was promoted to the starting lineup as a sophomore in 2017. He was chosen to the Second Team All-SEC.

He was the starting pitcher in Game 1 of the College World Series against the LSU Tigers, striking out 12 hitters and leading the Gators to a 4–3 victory.

Singer was chosen to the All-Tournament Team after Florida won the national championship. Singer went 9–5 with a 3.21 ERA in 126 innings pitched, striking out 129 batters and walking 32.

Singer was selected SEC Pitcher of the Year as a junior in 2018, after leading the SEC with 10 victories and a 2.25 ERA.

He also won the Dick Howser Trophy after being selected with a 12–1 record and a 2.30 ERA. He went 12–3 with a 2.55 ERA and a .204 batting average against in 17 starts last season.
