Smith was born on April 12, 2001. (NFL). His college football career at Penn State. Louisa County High School, located in Louisa, Virginia, was Smith’s alma mater.
In 2018, he was recognized as the best football player in the state of Virginia by Gatorade. He was a senior at the time. He was a participant in the Under Armour All-America Game that took place in 2019.

Smith was coached by Fischer throughout his time at Louisa County High School. During his first year at Penn State as a true freshman in 2019, Smith participated in 13 games and recorded 13 tackles.
In the year 2020, he was a sophomore and started all nine games, finishing with 37 tackles, two sacks, and one interception. [6] Smith made his way back onto the team as a starter for his junior year in 2021.
During the 2022 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers selected Smith in the fourth round, making him the 120th player selected overall.
