On Tuesday, the New York Jets re-signed wide receiver Braxton Berrios to a contract worth a total of $12 million over the course of two years.
According to Connor Hughes of The Athletic, Berrios’ new contract includes $7 million in guaranteed money, most of which is tied in with his $5.456 million signing bonus and $1.35 million basic salary for the 2022 season.
According to Hughes, Berrios will have a guaranteed income of only $500,000 out of his base pay of $5.5 million in 2023.
Over The Cap estimates that this will result in Berrios’ cap hits of $3.767 million in the year 2022 and $8.232 million in the year 2023.
If they decide to release him after the 2022 season, the New York Jets would clear $5 million in salary budget space but will be responsible for a dead cap charge of $3.232 million.
