The Minnesota Twins selected outfielder Brent Rooker, a Mississippi State University graduate, 35th overall in the 2017 amateur draft.



He was taken in the 38th round by the Twins as a redshirt sophomore in 2016, but he decided to play one more season.

In college, he primarily played first base and was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year after hitting.387 with 30 doubles, 23 home runs, and 82 RBIs in 67 games.



 

In his debut pro season, he split his time between the Elizabethton Twins and the Fort Myers Miracle, appearing in 62 games. With 18 home runs and 52 RBIs, he hit .281/.364/.566.

He spent the whole 2018 season in AA with the Chattanooga Lookouts, hitting .254/.333/.465, with 32 home runs, 22 doubles, and 79 RBIs in 130 games.

He was expected to make his main league debut in 2019, however an injury limited him to 65 games with the AAA Rochester Red Wings before he was shut down in September.

He hit .281/.398/.535 with 14 homers and 47 RBIs, reiterating his status as a top power prospect on the verge of breaking into the big leagues. In the minors, he mostly played left field, but he also saw action at first base in AA.
