Brett Maher’s Parents: Meet Brian Maher and Peggy Maher

Kicker Brett Maher has to be the most dogged and resolute professional athlete in the league. He will simply not accept a “no” regardless of the situation.

Ten years after his first NFL audition as an undrafted rookie free agent with the New York Jets, the 32-year-old from Nebraska finally made the 53-man roster.

Even if Maher’s first and last attempts at field goals were unsuccessful, the fact that he has made so many field goals in the interim demonstrates that he is well worth the wait.

His first attempt was unsuccessful in Carolina, and last week in Washington, he missed a 52-yard field goal attempt that would have tied the score.

During this time, Maher kicked 16 consecutive field goals, one of which was the game-winning kick against Detroit, which earned him the title of NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

In the first seven games of his career with the Cowboys, Maher has hit 16 field goals, which places him third all-time among Cowboys kickers for most field goals.

However, the beginning of that career occurred a very long time ago. Despite joining the squad over the offseason, he was already familiar to fans.
