Burke is scheduled to have surgery on his left labrum on Friday to fix a partial tear and fraying.

Burke had an injection in his left shoulder after experiencing soreness while throwing in December. The Rangers gave him a month off before resuming his training regimen. Last week, he reached a length of 90 feet.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels stated, “It didn’t get any worse, but it wasn’t getting any better.” “The symptoms began to return at 90 feet. There was no denying that more could be done.”

Burke pitched a total of 89 innings in the minors and majors last season. Early in the season, he struggled with blisters, and later in the season, he began to experience shoulder pain.

In six major league starts, he went 0-2 with a 7.43 ERA.

Burke is expected to be placed on the 60-day disabled list this spring, freeing up space on the 40-man roster.

This will make it easier for the Rangers to sign a minor-league invitee who is currently in camp. Kyle Cody, a right-hander, is also set to start the season on the 60-day IL.

There are a number of minor league guys at camp with legitimate possibilities to make the big leagues.
