The Astros and foreign free agent Abreu agreed to a deal in 2013. He began his career in July of this year.



Abreu signed a contract with the Houston Astros in November 2013 after becoming an unrestricted international free agency. In 2014, he made his professional debut for the Astros of the Dominican Summer League, pitching 22 innings out of the bullpen and going 0-2 with a 6.55 ERA.

He had a 2-2 record and a 3.83 ERA in his first 14 DSL games in 2015.



He started the 2016 campaign with the Greeneville Astros before being moved to the Gulf Coast League’s Astros. In 38.2 innings thrown, he had a 2.5-7 record and a 4.89 ERA.

In 14 games pitched for the Quad Cities River Bandits and Tri-City ValleyCats in 2018, he has a 6-1 record and a 1.49 ERA. In 2017, he went back to Greeneville and played in eight games, finishing with a 1-3 record and a 7.98 ERA.

The Astros added Abreu to their 40-man roster following the 2018 season.

He received a promotion from the Texas League All-Star-chosen Corpus Christi Hooks after beginning the 2019 season with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers.

The Astros elevated Abreu to the major leagues on July 31, 2019. He pitched a scoreless inning in a bullpen that evening to make his major league debut.

The next day, he was given the opportunity to go to Double-A Corpus Christi. Abreu pitched 3.1 innings, faced seven batters, and struck out two before being fired from the team in 2020 due to poor accuracy.
