He was born in Hialeah, Florida. Lavastida graduated from Westland Hialeah Senior High School and attended Hillsborough Community College.

The Cleveland Indians selected him in the 15th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft.



Lavastida debuted in the Arizona League with the Indians, batting .292 in 33 games.

He appeared in 59 games with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Lake County Captains in 2019, slashing .335/.410/.481 with two home runs and 38 runs batted in.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, all minor and major leagues were canceled so he did not make an appearance in the 2020 season.

He began his career with Lake County before being promoted to the Akron RubberDucks in 2021.

In September, he was promoted to the Columbus Clippers. Lavastida hit .289/.380/.456 in 84 games for both teams, with nine home runs, 51 runs batted in, and 16 stolen bases.

On November 19, 2021, Lavastida was added to the Cleveland Guardians’ 40-man roster. The Guardians announced his inclusion on the Opening Day roster on April 2, 2022.
