In the 2012 amateur draft, Byron Buxton was the second player selected. In 2015, he made his major league debut.

Buxton was a high school senior who hit.513 with 17 doubles and 38 steals while pitching 10-0 with 154 strikeouts in 81 innings. He struck out 18 batters on May 31, 2012, to help his club win its first state championship.

In his rookie season, he also played for the Elizabethton Twins, posting a combined batting line of.248/.344/.448 in 48 games.

Buxton started the 2013 season with the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Class A Midwest League, where he batted.341 in 68 games.

He was moved to the advanced Class A Fort Myers Miracle of the Florida State League in the middle of the season, but he did not slow down much, hitting .326 in 57 games.

In 120 games between the two, he hit.334/.424/.520 with 109 runs scored, 19 doubles, 18 triples, 12 homers, 77 RBI, and 55 steals.
