Sterns attended Cibolo, Texas’ Steele High School. Jordan Stern, who played for Oklahoma State University after high school (2010–2013), was Stern’s older brother and a star two-way player. Caden made 235 tackles and 11 interceptions in his career.



He was chosen to participate in the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, where he took home the MVP award and the Pete Dawkins Trophy.

Sterns, a five-star recruit, switched to the University of Texas at Austin after committing to play collegiate football at Louisiana State University (LSU).

The Denver Broncos selected Sterns in the fifth round, 152nd overall, of the 2021 NFL Draft. Sterns entered into a binding contract with the Broncos on May 11, 2021. His youngest brother Josh is a wide receiver with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, and his other brother Jerreth Sterns also plays wide receiver. His oldest brother Jordan played safety for Oklahoma State from 2013 to 2016.

Jerreth played at Houston Baptist University before transferring to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers for his final season so he could play with quarterback Bailey Zappe, another member of his squad.
