Thielbar went to high school in Randolph, Minnesota, and then went on to study baseball at South Dakota State University, where he was a member of the South Dakota State Jackrabbits collegiate baseball team. Thielbar was chosen by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 18th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft.

After being cut loose by the Brewers in 2011, Thielbar went on to play baseball in the independent league for the St. Paul Saints of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.

For the remainder of the 2011 season, Thielbar agreed to terms with the Minnesota Twins on a minor league contract. After the 2012 season, he was added to the team’s 40-man roster.

When Thielbar made his MLB debut on May 20, 2013, he went the distance, throwing two innings. In 2014, he started the season in the Twins’ bullpen and made 54 outings during that time period.

He finished the season with a 3.40 ERA, which is over two runs higher than his ERA in his first season. After just six appearances in 2015, he was marked for assignment.

Thielbar was obtained off waivers by the San Diego Padres from the Minnesota Twins. While with the St. Paul Saints in 2016, he was part of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.
