Jackson’s father had played for six seasons in the NFL, and he himself was a three-star prospect out of high school. His plans to attend Toledo were derailed when he discovered he did not meet the minimum GPA requirement and instead had to enroll at a community college.
Jackson attended the institution featured in the Netflix documentary “Last Chance U,” which was Independence Community College.
He played there for two years and finished with 74 receptions for 1,030 yards and nine touchdowns, however, his second year’s productivity was lower than his first.
Jackson transferred to Washington State after these two years, where he caught 26 receptions for 287 yards and two touchdowns in his freshman campaign.
As he fought with injuries and caught just 12 catches for 129 yards and a touchdown over the next two years, his career stalled.
After collecting 66 catches for 987 yards and seven touchdowns, he was named to the second team all-Pac 12 and was therefore eligible to return in 2021.
After the draft, Jackson tried to get signed as an undrafted free agent, but he was never invited to the scouting combine. He tried out for the Jets, but his performance at rookie camp was good enough to earn him a contract.
