He played offensive guard in varsity football at Catholic High School, where he went to school. From 2013 to 2016, he was a student at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he competed for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in NCAA football.

He started nine games as a freshman after making his debut against Texas State in the first game of the season. In the matchup with Boise State, he made his debut. He started at center in all 14 of his games as a junior, as well as all 12 of the 12 he participated in as a sophomore.
