South Carolina’s North Charleston is where Carlos Dunlap was born. He participated in the Fort Dorchester Patriots high school football team while attending Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston.
He recorded 103 tackles, 22 for a loss, and 9 quarterback sacks in his junior season. He had 105 tackles, 35 for loss, and 24 sacks as a senior, earning him a spot in the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.
Dunlap enrolled on a sports scholarship at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he played football from 2007 to 2009 for head coach Urban Meyer’s Florida Gators.
Dunlap was anticipated to be selected in the first round and possibly in the top ten after his second season. On January 11, 2010, it was announced that Dunlap would forgo his remaining eligibility and enter the 2010 NFL Draft.

Dunlap was dealt to the Seattle Seahawks on October 28, 2020 in exchange for center B. J. Finney and a seventh-round draft pick in 2021. In Week 9’s matchup with the Buffalo Bills, Dunlap made his Seahawks debut. During the 44-34 defeat, Dunlap recorded his first sack as a Seahawk against Josh Allen.
On Thursday Night Football in Week 11’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, Dunlap recorded two sacks of Kyler Murray, one of which came on a fourth-down play late in the fourth quarter to help the Seahawks secure a 28-21 victory.
On March 8, 2021, Dunlap was cut after the season, but on March 30, 2021, he returned to the team under a new two-year deal worth $16.6 million. On July 28, 2022, Dunlap signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
