Casey Mize is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was selected by the Tigers with the first overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft.
This is where Mize went to high school; he graduated from Springville High School. He was 19-2 as a senior in high school. He has made a verbal commitment to play college baseball for Auburn University.
In 2016, he pitched in 16 games, making seven starts, and going 2–5 with a 3.52 ERA and 59 strikeouts in seven appearances. After the 2016 season, he took part in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Wareham Gatemen.
Last season, Mize made 12 starts and pitched in 13 games, going 8-2 with a 2.04 ERA and striking out 110 batters while walking just nine.
When he was done playing for his college team, he spent the summer with the U.S. collegiate team. In 2018, Mize was named Auburn’s starting quarterback.
For the ninth time in program history, Mize pitched a no-hitter against Northeastern on March 9, 2018. During the course of the season, Mize went 10-6 with a 3.30 earned run average (ERA) and 156 strikeouts.
