He played college football at Stanford and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft before transitioning as a defensive end for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL).

Toohill, a three-star prospect, chose Stanford over football offers from other schools like Boston College, Nevada, Utah, Washington, and Washington State. Toohill was a fifth-year senior at Stanford who started each of his 12 games.

The day after the Eagles released Toohill, the Washington Football Team claimed him off waivers. Toohill’s first career sack of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes came in Week 6 of the 2021 campaign.

In Week 11’s game against the Carolina Panthers, he started in place of Chase Young, who the team had placed on injured reserve. He was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list on December 11, 2021, and had to miss the Week 14 game against the Dallas Cowboys before being activated again a week later.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Toohill in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 233rd overall. On October 13, 2020, the Eagles released him.
