Chad Green

It was in 2013 that Chad Green debuted as a professional pitcher.

The Toronto Blue Jays selected him in the 37th round of the 2010 amateur draft. He refused to sign anything (though he was the first draftee from that round to make the majors).

Detroit Tigers picked him in the eleventh round of the 2013 amateur draft. In addition to signing a contract, he was the first player selected in that round to reach the big leagues.

At GCL Tigers and Lakeland, Green has a 3.54 earned run average in 20 1/3 innings pitched for the GCL Tigers and the Flying Tigers of Lakeland in 2013.

With the West Michigan Whitecaps, he had a 3.11 ERA in 23 starts in 2014, striking out 125 hitters. He was 6-4 with the Whitecaps.

In 130 1/3 innings, he only gave up 121 hits and 28 walks. Erie SeaWolves pitcher Chad Green was 5-14 with a 3.93 earned run average and 8.3 strikeouts per nine innings in his 27 starts with the team in 2015.

He was dealt to the New York Yankees on December 9, 2015, with pitcher Luis Cessa, for pitcher Justin Wilson.

The pitcher was promoted to the majors after making seven starts for the Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in 2016 and going 2-2 with a 1.22 ERA.

It was May 16th when he faced the Arizona Diamondbacks and went 4 innings, allowing 4 earned runs (6 overall) on 8 hits and a single walk, while striking out 5.

The two home runs he gave up were to Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb. That day Conor Mullee made his big league debut, and Nick Goody, who had also just come out of the minors, replaced him in the rotation.

Over the next two months, he made three more journeys back and forth between New York and Scranton, before being called up to make a pinch start on August 15th against the Toronto Blue Jays.

A win over R.A. Dickey earned him the best performance of his young career, with him going six innings without allowing a run and striking out 11.

The first season of his professional career ended with a 2-4 record, 4.73 ERA and one save in 12 major league appearances, including eight starts.
