The Tigers traded Green and Luis Cessa to the New York Yankees for Justin Wilson on December 9, 2015. On February 5, 2016, he received a non-roster spring training invitation. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders was his team at the start of the year.

 

On May 14, 2016, the Yankees promoted Green to the major leagues. He made his debut in the major leagues on May 16. After activating Green as a reliever, the Yankees moved him to the rotation.

Green was shut down for the season by the Yankees after four starts due to a sprained elbow ligament. Green pitched 42+3 innings in 12 games (eight starts) with a 2–4 record, 4.73 ERA, and 52 strikeouts.

 

In 2017, at the conclusion of spring training, the Yankees optioned Green to the RailRiders. Green was called up to the Yankees on May 8. Green debuted with the Yankees on May 9 and was largely utilized as a bullpen throughout the season.

Green got his first start of the season on June 11 against the Baltimore Orioles. In two innings, he allowed two runs while striking out three.

Green finished the season with a record of 5–0, an ERA of 1.83, and 103 strikeouts in 69 innings pitched. Together, he and Dellin Betances became the sixth pair of teammates to retire 100 hitters as relievers.
