The Dodgers traded Culberson, Adrián González, Scott Kazmir, Brandon McCarthy, and monetary considerations to the Atlanta Braves on December 16, 2017.

Culberson struggled to start the 2018 season until taking on a greater role in late May due to Ronald Acua Jr.’s injury. As a pinch hitter on May 28, Culberson blasted a walk-off home run against the New York Mets.

He did it again on June 3rd, this time against the Washington Nationals. Culberson made his professional debut on August 17, pitching in the ninth inning of a game against the Colorado Rockies. During the 2018 season, his performance earned him the moniker “Charlie Clutch.”

Culberson and the Braves agreed to a one-year, $1.395 million contract for the 2019 season. He altered his uniform number from 16 to 8 to facilitate Brian McCann’s return to the club as a free agent.
