He was born on December 29, 1993, in the United States. During the Major League Baseball draft in 2012, the Toronto Blue Jays selected De Jong in the second round of available players.

He made his MLB debut in 2017. He is a former Major League Baseball player who has competed for the Seattle Mariners, Minnesota Twins, Houston Astros, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
