Flexen attended Newark Memorial High School in Newark, California, where he was the quarterback of the football team and a freshman member of the varsity baseball team.



His exceptional skills in both sports earned him the moniker “Flex.” Flexen is committed to playing college baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils,

but he was picked by the New York Mets in the 14th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft and was enticed away with a $375,000 signing bonus.

During his brief stint with the Kingsport Mets in 2012, Flexen had a 1–3 record and a 5.63 ERA in seven appearances. On December 6, 2019, Flexen was designated for assignment,

and the following day, the KBO’s Doosan Bears, the defending Korean Series champions, revealed that Flexen had signed a one-year deal with them.

The Seattle Mariners signed Flexen to a two-year, $4.75MM contract on December 9, 2020. Flexen made his first start of the 2021 season on April 3 against the San Francisco Giants, and he was promoted to the starting rotation.
