The Pirates’ only other arbitration-eligible player this season is all-star center fielder Bryan Reynolds.

Reynolds is set to earn $4.5 million in arbitration after earning $601,000 last season but has been linked to trade speculations as well as a possible extension.

By signing both shortstop Kevin Newman ($1.95 million) and outfielder Ben Gamel ($1.8 million, plus $200,000 in incentives) to one-year contracts last October, the Pirates avoided arbitration.

After closer, Richard Rodriguez was sold to Atlanta in late July, Stratton, 31, led the Pirates in wins (seven) and saves (eight) last season, when he transitioned from a long relief role to high-leverage circumstances.

In 2021, Stratton earned $1.1 million.

In 123 bullpen appearances with the Pirates over three seasons, Stratton is 10-3 with a 3.69 ERA. Stratton has a 25-19 record with a 4.56 ERA in six seasons with the Giants, Angels, and Pirates.

Reynolds is coming off an All-Star season in which he was a nominee for the NL Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards.

In 159 games, he hit .302/.390/.522 with 35 doubles, 24 home runs, 90 RBIs, and eight triples, which tied him for the major league lead.

Reynolds has batted in every game since being acquired from the San Francisco Giants in the contentious Andrew McCutchen deal in 2018.

In three seasons with the Pirates, he hit 290/.377/.490 with 47 home runs and 177 RBIs.
