Cody Morris

American professional baseball pitcher Cody McKinley Morris was born on November 4, 1996. He plays for the Cleveland Guardians.

In Fulton, Maryland, Morris attended Reservoir High School. In the 32nd round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft, the Baltimore Orioles selected him, but he chose to play college baseball for the University of South Carolina instead of signing a contract.

The Cleveland Indians then selected him in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

In 2019, Morris made his professional debut with the Lynchburg Hillcats and Lake County Captains. He had a record of 7-4, a 4.35 earned run average and 111 strikeouts over 89 innings in 21 games (twenty starts) with the two teams.

Since the 2020 minor league season was postponed owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, he did not participate in a single game. Prior to getting promoted to the Columbus Clippers in 2021, he began the season with the Akron RubberDucks.

Between the two teams, he played in 15 games, starting 14 of them, posting a 2-2 record, 1.62 earned run average, and 93 strikeouts in 61 innings.

On November 19, 2021, the newly renamed Cleveland Guardians added Morris to their 40-man roster.

Morris boasts three above-average pitches, which is enough to at least twice flip the lineup. Despite that and his build, it is difficult to predict a definite rotation arm due to control over command and a lack of professional experience holding velocity and stuff late into outings. The upside of a middle-of-the-rotation arm is provided by the build and arsenal.

Command issues and the capacity to maintain his armament during games, together with the sporadic incapacity to repeat delivery, raise relief issues.

He could potentially fill a high leverage job with a three-pitch mix and still be a competitive reliever. Having a cutter in his arsenal would also help his profile because of his sometimes straight fastball and arm slot.
