He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 25th round of the 2013 MLB draft. He signed with them and began his professional career that year with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League. In the 2014 season, he was assigned to play for both the Carolina Mudcats of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League and the Akron RubberDucks of the Class AA Eastern League.

He was promoted to the major leagues in September that year and he made his MLB debut on September 6 2019 for the Rays when they played against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Baltimore Orioles claimed him off waivers in October 2019 and in April 2022, the Orioles traded his contract to the Miami Marlins.
