He played basketball and football while he was a student at Clackamas High School. In 2017, he assisted in guiding his football team to a state championship and three straight conference titles. With 76 receptions for 1,325 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior in 2017, he led the state of Oregon in receiving, earning all-state accolades.



As a wide receiver for the Nevada Wolf Pack football team, Turner played in 12 games as a freshman after enrolling at the University of Nevada, Reno in 2018.

He switched positions to tight end as a sophomore in 2020, and as a result of his nine touchdown catches and second-place finishes on the team in both catches (49) and receiving yards (605) to Romeo Doubs, he earned first-team All-Mountain West accolades.
