Welker was picked by the Colorado Rockies in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB draft out of Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Welker played for the Grand Junction Rockies during the 2016 season, where he batted .329 with five home runs and 36 RBIs in 51 games. He was named both a Pioneer League mid-season All-Star and a Rockies organizational All-Star at the end of the season.

He only played 67 games for the Asheville Tourists in 2017 due to injury, but he still hit.350 with six home runs and 33 RBIs.

In 2018, he appeared in 114 games for the Lancaster JetHawks, batting .333/.383/.489 with 13 home runs and 82 RBIs.Along with being selected for the postseason All-Star team, he was named a midseason All-Star for the California League.

Welker appeared in 98 games for the Hartford Yard Goats in 2019, batting .252 with ten home runs and 53 RBIs.

Since the 2020 minor league season was postponed owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, he has not participated in a single game.

Welker was added to the 40-man roster on November 20, 2020. Welker was given an 80-game ban on May 6, 2021, after testing positive for CDMT.

Welker’s first MLB at-bat against the San Francisco Giants on September 8, 2021, resulted in a flyout. On July 6, 2022, he was assigned to a new position.
