He proceeded to study at Saint Mary’s College of California where he played college baseball. He joined the Orleans Firebirds playing squad of the Cape Cod Baseball League in the summer of 2015.

In 16 starts during his junior season, he went 9–2 with a 2.48 ERA. After the season, he was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
