The Colorado Springs Sky Sox were his first stop of the season. On July 8, 2018, Burnes was promoted to the majors for the first time, and on July 10, 2018, he made his major league debut, pitching two scoreless innings, striking out one, and earning his first major league save.

He pitched four scoreless innings in relief in two NLDS outings against the Colorado Rockies, getting the win in the clinching 6–0 Game 3 triumph. He got the final six outs in the NLCS game six victory over the Dodgers.
