According to reports, the New York Jets improved their passing game on Monday when they reached an agreement with free agent wide receiver Corey Davis.
The agreement is reportedly a three-year, $37.5 million deal with $27 million guaranteed, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
In spite of being the fifth overall choice in the 2017 NFL Draft, Davis and the Tennessee Titans struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm throughout his first three seasons in the league.
The wide receiver played in 42 games from 2017-2019, racking up 1,867 receiving yards and six touchdowns, or 44.5 yards per game.
He had a breakout year in 2020 when he caught 65 passes for a career-high 984 yards and five touchdowns, good for an average of 70.3 yards per game. He had only two games in his first three years when he topped 100 yards, but he had five such games last year.

Davis was an integral member of the team that finished tied for second in the NFL in yards from scrimmage despite having Derrick Henry get much of the offensive attention.
Now with New York, he’ll try to maintain his production high in 2021 and beyond as a weapon for Sam Darnold or whoever ends up starting at quarterback.
Even with all of his success, Davis still raises some red flags due to his career-long lack of consistency. There were three games in 2020, including a playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens, in which he did not record a single reception.
His new team is crossing their fingers that the benefits of the contract outweigh any potential drawbacks.
