Corey Donte Ray is a Major League Baseball outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers in the United States. In 2021, he made his MLB debut.
Ray was a student at Chicago’s Simeon Career Academy. He participated in 2012 Under Armour All-American Game in the summer before his senior year.
He was drafted in the 33rd round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft by the Seattle Mariners, but he declined to sign and instead attended the University of Louisville to play college baseball for the Louisville Cardinals.
Ray started 19 games and competed in 43 games as a rookie for Louisville in 2014. With one home run and 17 runs batted in, he hit .325/.416/.481 (RBI).
He played collegiate summer baseball with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League after the 2014 season.
He started all 65 games as a sophomore in 2015, hitting .325/.389/.543 with 11 home runs, 56 RBI, and 34 stolen bases. Ray stole home in the bottom of the ninth inning against Wake Forest to give Louisville the victory.
After the season, he spent the summer with the United States collegiate national team.
Ray was chosen fifth overall in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
He signed with the Brevard County Manatees of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Class A Midwest League and played his first professional season with both organizations, batting .239 with five home runs, 17 RBI, and ten stolen bases in 60 games.
Ray played 112 games with the Carolina Mudcats of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League in 2017, hitting .238 with seven home runs, 48 RBI, and 24 stolen bases.
He spent the 2018 season with the Class AA Southern League’s Biloxi Shuckers. He was named the Southern League Most Valuable Player after hitting .239 with 27 home runs, 74 RBI, and 37 stolen bases.
