Waitman attended South Alabama University from 2014 to 2018. Waitman transferred to Mississippi State University in February 2019. Waitman, however, was denied an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA, therefore he was unable to play college football in 2019.

Waitman was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers on April 28, 2020, as an undrafted free agent. Waitman was cut and re-signed to the practice squad on September 5, 2020. On January 14, 2021, Waitman executed a reserve/future contract.
