Cornell Powell is an American football wide receiver who currently plays for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League.
Powell was born on October 30, 1997. His college football career at Clemson. J.H. Rose High School, located in Greenville, North Carolina, was Powell’s alma mater.
As a senior, he finished with 65 receptions, 1,557 yards receiving, and 38 touchdowns in total. He has made his intentions clear and will play collegiate football for Clemson University.
From 2016 through 2019, Powell served as a backup wide receiver. After participating in just four games during the 2018 season, he elected to take a redshirt that year.
Over the course of those years, he finished with a total of 40 receptions, 329 yards and three touchdowns. During his redshirt senior year in 2020, he was given the opportunity to start for the first time.
By the end of the season, he had 53 receptions, which he turned into 882 yards and seven touchdowns. At the time of the 2021 NFL Draft, Powell was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round, placing them 181st overall.
On May 13, 2021, he put his signature on a rookie deal that lasted four years. On August 31, 2021, he was released from the active roster and re-signed to the practice squad the following day.
On February 2, 2022, he joined the Chiefs on a reserve/future basis after signing a deal with the team.
