Hayes spent his formative years in the town of Belleville, Michigan, before enrolling at St. Mary’s Preparatory School in the nearby community of Orchard Lake Village.

After finishing his sophomore year in Michigan, he relocated to California and enrolled in St. Bonaventure High School in Los Angeles. There, he played football for the first half of a season before moving back to Michigan and transferred to Cass Technical High School in Detroit.

In preparation for his senior year of high school, Hayes made the move to Skyline High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

While he was still attending St. Mary’s Collegiate, he made a verbal commitment to play college football at USC, where he was rated as a five-star prospect.

Hayes reversed his previous commitment as a senior and made his final decision to attend Notre Dame.

On May 16, 1998, Daelin was brought into the world by her parents, Derrick Hayes and La Keisha Neal. His dad, Derrick, was a basketball player at Detroit Mercy University.

The young man, who is now 24 years old, spent his formative years in a home headed solely by his mother due to the fact that his parents divorced when he was still a child. When she gave birth to him, his mother was only 19 years old herself.
